Kutztown University and Muhlenberg Ambulance Association Launch Summer 2025 EMT Certification Course
Kutztown University (KU) is proud to announce a new partnership with the Muhlenberg Ambulance Association to offer a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification course during the summer of 2025. This initiative is part of KU’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to career-focused education and responding to critical workforce needs in healthcare and public safety.
The course will run from May 19 through August 18, 2025, with instruction scheduled during evenings and weekends at Kutztown University’s Old Main building. This convenient scheduling is designed to accommodate traditional students, working professionals, and community members seeking a flexible way to prepare for a high-demand career.
Real-World Training for Real-Life Emergencies
Participants in the program will receive comprehensive, hands-on instruction in life-saving procedures, including patient assessment, CPR, trauma care, airway management, and emergency childbirth. The curriculum is aligned with national standards and fully prepares students to take the National Registry EMT certification exam, a critical step toward becoming a licensed EMT in Pennsylvania and many other states.

Instructors from the Muhlenberg Ambulance Association bring years of field experience and clinical expertise to the classroom, ensuring that students not only learn essential medical skills but also understand the critical thinking, communication, and teamwork required in high-pressure emergency situations.
Kutztown University serves as an approved satellite education site through the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Bureau of EMS, operating under the oversight and accreditation of Muhlenberg Ambulance. This designation underscores the program’s rigorous quality standards and its alignment with statewide efforts to expand access to EMS education and improve public health outcomes.
A Response to a Growing Need
The demand for skilled EMTs and paramedics continues to rise across Pennsylvania and the nation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of EMTs and paramedics is projected to grow by 7% through 2031 — faster than the average for all occupations — due to increased calls for emergency care and an aging population.
By launching this certification course, KU and Muhlenberg Ambulance Association are directly addressing these needs and creating pathways into meaningful, in-demand careers. For many participants, EMT training is not just a job credential — it’s a stepping stone toward long-term goals in healthcare, fire service, law enforcement, and allied health fields.
A Broader Mission: Empowering Our Region
This program is part of KU’s larger mission to support community engagement and workforce development through innovative partnerships. Through its Extended Learning department, KU is working with regional employers and agencies to offer noncredit certification programs, customized training, and continuing education opportunities that are accessible, affordable, and aligned with regional workforce needs.
